We are seeking an Electronics Specialist to join the Creator Space at the University of Melbourne, supporting students, academics, and makers in a dynamic, hands-on environment.
In this role, you’ll be the subject matter expert in the field of Electronics, you will provide input into correct tools, equipment and training required to deliver a safe and effective electronic service. You will also enage users and guide skill development in areas related to electronics, basic programming and general hands on fabrication.
The role is critical in supporting the evolving needs of our customer's user base contributing to positive changes to the services provided by Creator Sapce through ongoing iteration and devleopment of the overall service and in identifying and resourcing strategically aligned initiatives.
What you’ll do:
- Deliver a safe and efficient Creator Space service for students and staff.
- Support the Core Training program, guiding students through structured learning.
- Provide expert advice on the right tools, equipment, and training for an effective electronics service.
- Mentor and guide users in electronics, programming, and fabrication skills.
- Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and collaborative maker culture.
- Support compliance with OHS, ISO9001, and university standards.
- Assist academic and student groups with coursework and non-coursework projects.
What you’ll bring:
- A background in Engineering, Design, or Manufacturing with some relevant industry experience.
- A Diploma or higher qualification in Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics Engineering, or related field.
- Hands-on experience in electrical troubleshooting and problem solving
- Experience working in a hands-on fabrication/creative environment
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a passion for mentoring and developing students.
- A collaborative, curious, and proactive approach to making and problem-solving.
- Eligibility for an Australian Baseline Security Clearance and a Working with Children Check.
