Headquartered in Nowra, New South Wales, QinetiQ Air Affairs, part of QinetiQ’s Threat Representation business unit, provides targets and training services, and electronic warfare capabilities to the Australian Defence Force, in addition to aerial surveillance and reconnaissance in support of government firefighting efforts. Air Affairs owns and operates a fleet of special mission aircraft and maintains an advanced manufacturing and engineering facility providing design, manufacture and certification operations. 

We are now taking expressions of interest for a second round of apprentice fitter / machinists to join our Advanced Manufacturing Centre within our QinetiQ Air Affairs team in Nowra. This is for roles that will be starting mid year 2024

 

Please note our March 24 round has now closed. We anticipate these roles starting around July 2024. 

 

We are looking for individuals keen on developing their careers as fitter & machinists within a cutting edge manufacturing facility supporting the defence industry.

 

As an apprentice in this diverse environment you will undertake a certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Fitting/Machining) whilst being supported by experienced trade’s people.

 

You will learn a variety of skills that will take you towards a career in advanced manufacturing including CNC operation. Our team are involved in the manufacture of a variety of complex and interesting products that support the delivery of threat representation services to the defence industry.

 

Your day to day role will see you joining a supportive team to;

 

  • Learn new manufacturing techniques and methods
  • Support manufacturing and fabrication of a variety of products
  • Take part in study through Wollongong TAFE
  • Learn how to Identify and rectify manufacturing faults
  • Learn how to Interpret complex engineering drawings

 

As our ideal candidate you will bring;

 

  • A willingness to learn and enthusiasm doing a hands on trade role
  • A professional attitude and excellent communication skills
  • An aptitude for mechanical systems or the willingness to learn in a dynamic environment
  • Commitment to completing all parts of the apprenticeship program
  • Desire to part of a close knit team and support the development of others

 

You will be provided with an opportunity to learn, develop your skills in an advanced manufacturing environment and support critical infrastructure to the ADF.
