QinetiQ Australia, part of the global QinetiQ group, provides technological and scientific expertise to help customers protect and advance their vital interests. As an innovative science and technology company, we help solve some of our customers' most challenging problems. Our determination to deliver and improve today and anticipate and shape tomorrow, makes QinetiQ a very exciting, rewarding and respected place to work and learn.

In line with our recent acquisition of Air Affairs, we’re pleased to welcome applications from senior commercial management professionals for a new role in the QinetiQ Australia commercial function.

Air Affairs is a leader in air threat representation, test and evaluation, unmanned targets and mission rehearsal. The business provides targets and training services and electronic warfare capabilities to the Australian Defence Force, in addition to aerial surveillance and reconnaissance in support of government firefighting efforts. Headquartered in Nowra, New South Wales, Air Affairs owns and operates a fleet of special mission aircraft and maintains an advanced manufacturing and engineering facility providing design, manufacture and certification operations.

Reporting directly to the General Manager Commercial QinetiQ Australia, as the Strategic Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for delivering dedicated and strategic commercial leadership and support to QinetiQ Air Affairs for both strategic growth opportunities, contract delivery, supply chain management and export compliance.  In this key role, you will work collaboratively with the QinetiQ Air Affairs leadership team and other business and functional team members to ensure the business achieves sound commercial outcomes in its contractual arrangements while maximising financial/operational performance and ensuring compliance.

Whilst our preference is that the role is based with the Air Affairs team in Nowra, applicants Sydney, Wollongong (or surrounds) or Canberra are welcome to apply – noting that non-region based applicants will be expected to work from site regularly.

In terms of key accountabilities, you’ll provide strategic commercial direction and advice to business leaders and integrated bid/project teams to develop sound commercial solutions for strategic business winning opportunities. You will contribute to business winning through your subject matter expertise and guidance and in accordance with QinetiQ’s internal policies.  You will also provide commercial advice in support of business operations – supporting contract reviews, negotiations, establishing supplier agreements and managing intellectual property.  In the conduct of your role, you will also support the General Manager Commercial in the transition of QinetiQ’s commercial, estimating, pricing, procurement and export control policies, procedures, templates and training into the QAA business, ensuring alignment with QinetiQ Group’s Global Operating Framework and adherence to Commercial governance requirements at both corporate and bid/project levels.

As our ideal applicant for this key role, you’ll present with:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications coupled with substantial experience working in a commercial contracting environment, preferably within the commercial aviation and/or defence sectors
  • A successful track record in negotiating and managing contracts of medium to high risk/complexity
  • A well-developed understanding of the commercial, supply chain, regulatory (includes but is not limited to export controls), and the industry environment to inform strategy, decision making and provide sound commercial advice to business leaders
  • Well-developed commercial acumen coupled with an acute ability for risk mitigation and superior problem solving, communication and influencing skills

Due to the nature of our work, applicants need to be eligible for Australian Defence security clearance.

Whilst applications must be made online, confidential enquiries are welcome and may initially be directed to Jo Burns, Talent Acquisition Specialist via email; JBurns@qinetiq.com.au . A position description is available upon request.
