The Role
As an Associate Communications Engineer, you'll play a key role in developing innovative underwater communications capabilities that help our customers solve complex maritime challenges and deliver mission-critical outcomes
Day-to-day, you'll support the research, design, development, integration and testing of underwater maritime communications systems, working with project managers and technical leads to deliver innovative solutions. You'll contribute to modelling, analysis, trials planning, experimentation and system evaluation activities, produce technical reports and documentation, analyse performance data, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve complex engineering challenges across both laboratory and operational maritime environments.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the design, development, integration and testing of underwater maritime communications systems
- Conducting technical analysis, modelling and evaluation activities to support project delivery and technology development
- Planning and supporting laboratory and field trials, including data collection, analysis and reporting
- Producing high-quality technical documentation, presentations, test reports and design artefacts
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions to complex communications engineering challenges
- Assisting with system installation, acceptance activities and the delivery of customer-focused technical outputs
Essential experience of the Associate Communications Engineer:
- Experience of working on engineering or scientific projects, with an understanding of engineering processes and lifecycle activities
- Knowledge of communications engineering principles, including RF communications concepts and techniques
- Experience using engineering tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, CAD or similar analysis and modelling software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data and produce clear recommendations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing technical reports, presentations or documentation
Essential qualifications for the Associate Communications Engineer:
- Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or another relevant STEM discipline
- Full and Clean UK Driving License

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Portsmouth site.
