About the CCIS IDT:

We enable our customers to operate their combat, communication and information systems safely, securely and effectively in complex and dynamic environments.

We use our deep domain expertise, underpinned by dedicated facilities to deliver solution architectures, design, integration, test and evaluation for ships and submarines. Comprises about 160 engineers and scientists from Engineering and Operations to deliver services and solutions in maritime combat systems, above water sensors, communications and information systems. The CCIS business is one of five business units delivering into maritime customers and is mainly based at Portsdown Technology Park.


Overall Purpose of the role:
As part of the CCIS IDT the candidate will fulfil a senior, influencing role and be required to provide radar and weapon systems expertise for design, development, evaluation and assessment activities for a range of programmes. This will include:

  • Provision of system level expertise for naval radar and weapon systems.
  • Provision of technical support and advice to MOD customers on system requirements, design, testing and performance.
  • Support to developing novel solutions, such as signal processing, to enhance performance of radar systems.
  • Produce quality technical documentation in support of the work conducted.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Specific responsibilities for which the post holder has a requirement to deliver will include assessments of system design, development, setting to work and trials for in-service and future radar and weapons system.
  • Plan/structure own work and report to Project Manager/ Lead Engineer on progress.
  • Engage with relevant customers and stakeholders to help ensure requirements are met and delivery is acceptable.

Knowledge, skills and personal qualities required:

  • Qualified to degree-level (in engineering or closely related engineering subject) or with significant experience gained from working in a similar role.
  • Good understanding of procedures and concepts within own discipline and a basic knowledge of these elements in other disciplines.
  • Ability to work with a diverse range of teams and to also undertake tasks unsupervised/manage own workload.
  • Capable of innovative thinking.
  • An understanding of Systems Engineering principles and how own area integrates into others.
  • Good knowledge and understanding in working with maritime/naval radar and weapon systems including architectural design, specifications, implementation, test and acceptance.
  • Be able to make evaluative judgements on the analysis of factual information.
  • Sound and comprehensive communications skills are required in order to exchange complex information.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and potentially overseas.
  • DV clearance.

  • Understanding the requirements in support of planned and future military and commercial naval radar and weapons programmes.
  • Innovation in the application/integration of radar technologies to provide new and enhanced capabilities to our customers.
