The project manager will assist the programme manager with delivery of on-contract projects through to project closure, and manage the sub-contractors as they deliver their work-share and integrate it with the QinetiQ operating infrastructure.

 

Maritime Training, Tactics, Test and Evaluation Transformation Inter Disciplinary Team (MTET IDT) are taking on new business from the MOD to grow our Maritime Ranging capabilities, and we are seeking a Project Manager to help manage delivery of the Submarine Electro-Magnetic Ranging (SMEMR) Programme. 
 
The SMEMR programme is a multi-phase programme building on the SMEMR technology demonstrator at BUTEC to put in place the infrastructure required to carry out routine EM ranging of submarines for our customer as part of the LTPA. This is an opportunity to join a talented and dedicated team focusing on the build-up of critical defence infrastructure. Due to the nature of the investments the projects provide significant challenges and will be excellent opportunity to build upon, and extend, existing leadership skills to further extend career opportunities within QinetiQ.
 
The Role:
As a Project Manager, you will have a role out of the ordinary. You will be accountable for the delivery and leadership of a multi-year risk-bearing investment project. You will be tasked with ensuring our commitments to our internal and external stakeholders are met.
 
Day-to-day, you will also be responsible for:

  • Tracking and monitoring of monthly costs, invoicing and revenue payments in order to support business financial objectives and supplier progress, raising of purchase orders, and supply payments on the supply chain side
  • Delivering the project outputs, to agreed baseline (customer satisfaction, time, cost, quality, cash and sales) and ensuring project members operate in line with the Operating Framework & functional competency management requirements
  • Resolving conflicts (including prioritisation calls) within the project and collaborating across QinetiQ
  • Developing and maintaining of forecasts (both financial and resource demand signal) for delivery which reflects the up-to-date expectations for the work
  • The application of governance requirements (including lifecycle, project & independent reviews as appropriate) for delivery work
  • Reporting progress on all accountabilities to senior programme / portfolio manager (or their delegate) 

 
This role is a full-time position based at our Portsmouth site with adaptive working arrangements. You will also be required to travel occasionally to BUTEC range, and to QQ, customer and sub-contractor sites for meetings and visits as required.

 

Essential experience of the Project Manager:

  • Project management experience and worked into a function that successfully delivers support to complex projects
  • Delivering defence, engineering and/or IT projects
  • Leadership; influencing and aligning others towards the vision for the project, and to empower & inspire people to achieve success
  • Communication; effectively communication as part of a two-way interaction, using a range of techniques, to ensure the received meaning matches the transmitted meaning
  • Stakeholder Management: identifying, planning and implementing actions to positively engage parties with an interest in, or influence over, the project outputs
  • Teamwork: creating an environment where a group of people with diverse personalities, skills, experiences and perspectives are empowered to collaborate towards a common goal

 

Qualifications for the Project Manager:

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in appropriate discipline
  • Hold a recognised PM qualification (APM Project Professional Qualification (PPQ) or Prince2)
  • Experience in Defence, Aerospace or other closely related sectors
