We are currently looking for a Machinist/Fabricator to join our Integrated Engineering Services division based in Sydney.  

 

This role will support and conduct fabrication, engineering and maintenance activities in accordance with contracts and customer driven requests. You will be responsible for:

 

Production work including;

  • Fabrication and Machining
  • Rapid Prototyping
  • Documentation, Test and Evaluation
  • Associated Test Equipment
  • Safety Management Systems
  • Other equipment as directed

 

Maintenance, support and management of workshop facility and technicians, including (but not limited to):

  • Calibration of support and test equipment.
  • Facilities upkeep.
  • Storekeeping.
  • Logistics support (including asset procurement).

 

Scope of work includes;

  • Precision Lathe and Mill machining
  • CNC Production – Hurco WinMax environment
  • Welding TIG & MIG
  • Mechanical Assembly
  • Waterjet Operations
  • Bending, Rolling, Cutting in sheet metal
  • General Rapid Prototyping and production of small run high precision equipment,
  • Forklift, Inventory and Warehouse support
  • Support functions to test and trial activities including occasional on-water test activities

 

As a Machinist/Fabricator, some other responsibilities will include;

  • Machine Maintenance, Commissioning, servicing and operation
  • Machining and manufacturing to drawing specifications
  • Ability to interpret product requirements and implement solutions to suit.
  • Calibration of test and measuring equipment
  • Assist with relevant Safety Activities including Risk Assessments, SWMS and JSEA for relevant tasks
  • Operate in a cooperative environment with a wide range of skill sets and the willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Operate safely within the workshop facility at Eveleigh
  • Participate within a high performance culture
  • Assist with delivering services to customers that enhance QinetiQ’s reputation as a trusted provider and partner
  • Compliance with legislative, regulatory, QinetiQ Quality Management Systems, Employee Safety requirements

 

To be successful in the role of Machinist/Fabricator you will need to bring with you:

  • Mechanical trade background or experience in working towards. This includes apprentices looking to start a trade or mid-term apprentices looking for a new challenge
  • Certificate 3 or 4 in relevant Engineering Mechanical Trade. (Desirable but not essential)
  • Defence industry experience advantageous
  • Demonstration of initiative, creativity, self-motivation and teamwork
  • Demonstrated experience performing maintenance operations within a complex mechanical environment (desirable)
  • High quality of work and attention to detail
  • Ability to convert concepts and prototypes into a realistic end product within budget and time constraints. (Desirable)
  • CAD experience desired (Autodesk Inventor)
  • Ability to translate formal and informal mechanical drawings and designs
  • Experience operating within a quality management system
  • Experience working with mechanical engineers
  • Experience in Manual Machinery e.g. Vertical Mill, Brake Press, Guillotine, Drilling, Rolling, welding, assembly (Highly regarded)
  • Experience in Automated Production e.g. CNC Milling, Waterjet, laser, 3D printing etc. (Highly regarded)
