We are currently looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Integrated Engineering Services (IES) division, based in Sydney. Working alongside world-leading defence scientists our IES division offers multi-disciplinary professional engineering services supported by in-house manufacturing capabilities, to solve challenging engineering problems for our Defence Science and Technology clients. 

 

Reporting directly to the Principal Engineer the Senior Systems Engineer will be required to work independently on complex technical engineering tasks but will be able to receive guidance where required. The role will require sound knowledge in systems engineering processes, requirements definition, requirements verification and general hardware design principles applied in accordance with QinetiQ and Defence policies and procedures.

 

As a Senior Systems Engineer, your responsibilities will include, but not limited to;

 

  • Lead requirements definition of complex hardware engineering projects, R&D and or product development projects
  • Requirements verification planning (e.g. functional, performance and environmental)
  • Lead project scoping and technical planning activities IAW QinetiQ/customer requirements
  • Coordination of project bid/proposal creation
  • Support safety analysis and creation of safety artefacts
  • Participate in electro-mechanical hardware development activities and discussions
  • Working with suppliers of COTS and bespoke components.
  • Coordination of verification testing such as environmental testing to MIL-STDs.
  • Documentation of design justification, procedures, test reports, etc.
  • Contribute to electronics/mechanical design activities and discussions.
  • With scope for individual accomplishment and coordination of more difficult assignments, deals with problems for which it is necessary to modify established guides and devise new approaches.

 

 

 To be successful in the role as Senior Systems Engineer, you will need to bring with you;

 

  • Extensive experience in a hardware development environment
  • A high level understanding of the design lifecycle and development within a Systems Engineering context
  • Experience of systems utilised in a marine and underwater environment (considered advantageous)
  • Experience with working within a Defence environment
  • High technical documentation writing skills
  • Advanced skills using the Microsoft Office suite
  • Advanced writing and documentation development skills
  • Experience in working in an office as well as workshop environment
  • Experience operating within a quality management system
  • Strong inter personal skills and an ability to communicate with a diverse range of senior Defence stakeholders
  • Strong team working skills within a multidisciplinary environment
