The Role
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will lead and or support the technical delivery of infrastructure developments which underpin our bespoke Test, Trails, Training and Evaluation facilities, primarily relating to Aviation infrastructure at MOD Boscombe Down.
Day-to-day, you will be involved in projects leading and supporting infrastructure for Aviation for example, those used to support Empire Test Pilot School or for testing whole (air/land) platforms over environment or electromagnetic susceptibility. You will also work in conjunction with project managers across broad stakeholder groups, including internal and external customers, colleagues, and suppliers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the technical delivery of Test & Evaluation Equipment/System’s projects and or work packages to time, cost, and quality working closely with project managers.
- Delivering Systems Engineering activities through project life e.g. technical proposals, requirements, solution definition, solution implementation, system integration, test, certification, acceptance, and transition into service
- Engaging with engineering, operations, and site leadership teams as well as internal (Trials, IT, Property, Procurement) and external stakeholders (MOD, Supplies) to elicit, develop and refine requirements identifying appropriate solutions
- Tailoring lifecycle and engineering governance approach in consultation with the Chief Engineer or their representatives, identifying critical safety and security element early in lifecycle
- Identifying and delivering against appropriate regulatory, legal, safety and other engineering requirements and standards, with a well bounded and evidenced solution
- Planning and delivering complicated integration, installation, and acceptance activity, working with project stakeholder communities and the needs of the range/site enterprise (SCIDA), including IT, Safety and Security systems
Essential experience of the Senior Systems Engineer – T3E Systems & Infrastructure:
- Demonstrable experience of leading multi-disciplinary project or work packages through engineering lifecycle
- Demonstrable experience of authoring systems engineering artefacts and delivering certified outcomes
- Prior experience in a relevant engineering discipline, and ambition to broaden/deepen expertise
- The ability to plan and oversee a transition to operation activity
- A strong knowledge of, or ability to rapidly assimilate Construction, Design & Management, SCIDA, Aviation equipment, land-based test facilities, processes, and safety approaches
- The ability to proactively anticipate potential problems and deal with barriers
Essential qualifications for the Senior Systems Engineer – T3E Systems & Infrastructure:
- A Degree Level qualification or equivalent experience

This role is 37 hours per week based at our MOD Boscombe Down site. Hybrid working patterns are available.

MOD Boscombe Down is a unique operational site featuring the longest military runway in the UK. Primarily focusing on providing testing, evaluation and support services for aviation and aerospace systems.
