The Role
As an Environmental Management and Sustainability Specialist, you will help ensure sustainability principles and environmental best practice are embedded throughout the lifecycle of Defence equipment, infrastructure, and services.
Day-to-day, you'll work closely with MOD customers, regulators, and multidisciplinary project teams to deliver environmental management and sustainability support across a broad portfolio of Defence programmes. You will contribute to environmental assessments, environmental case reporting, compliance activities, and sustainability initiatives while helping customers manage environmental risks and regulatory obligations throughout project lifecycles.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide environmental and sustainability advice across Defence programmes, supporting compliance and environmental risk management
- Support environmental planning, assessment, and compliance activities for Defence equipment, infrastructure, and disposal programmes
- Produce and contribute to Environmental Case Reports, Environmental Impact Assessments, and POEMS-related environmental deliverables
- Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
- Engage with Defence customers, regulators, local authorities, and key stakeholders through workshops and meetings
- Conduct site visits and assessments across the UK while collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams
Essential experience of the Environmental Management and Sustainability Specialist:
- Experience delivering environmental management, sustainability, or environmental compliance activities within Defence or another highly regulated industry
- Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems including ISO 14001
- Experience supporting Environmental Impact Assessments, environmental screening, and scoping activities
- Understanding of environmental legislation, regulatory compliance, and environmental risk management principles
- Experience producing environmental case reports or similar environmental assurance documentation
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with customers and project teams
Essential qualifications for the Environmental Management and Sustainability Specialist:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Farnborough or Bristol site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
