The Role
As a Naval Architect, you will provide Naval Architecture related advice and guidance to our customers within the defence industry.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll conduct assessments of surface ships and submarines to evaluate their performance in manoeuvring and control, dynamic stability, quasi-static stability, seakeeping, resistance and propulsion.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Present work in internal and external forums, including conferences and in customer meetings
  • Participate in business support activities will also be required including bidding and planning activities through the provision of task estimates and breakdowns of task descriptions
  • Working collaboratively with customers and colleagues to understand the customers’ requirements, help develop the package of work including looking at innovative solutions and then undertake the work in accordance with the agreed plan
  • Ensure the work is conducted in a safe manner, highlighting hazards and potentially unsafe practices to Team Lead
  • Actively participate and encourage increased collaboration across the Group

 

Essential experience of the Naval Architect: 

  • Highly motivated, dynamic with a positive attitude and values of integrity, collaboration and performance
  • Keen desire to develop and grown their technical skills and understanding
  • Good knowledge of data analysis including experience of programming (Matlab, Python etc.)
  • Ability to develop alternative strategies to overcome issues and innovate to improve the overall value to the customer
  • Good communication skills, both written and presentational. Including the ability to exchange complex information
  • Good team working, organisation, communication and attention to detail

 

Essential qualifications for the Naval Architect: 

  • Degree in Naval Architecture (or similar) or equivalent industry experience

This role is 37 hours per week based at Haslar. Hybrid working patterns are available.

 

 

Our facilities at the Haslar Marine Technology Park are state-of-the-art, including our ocean basin rotating arm, and marine towing tank, offering an unparalleled environment for testing and refining designs. Our marine technology offers our global customers a service to deliver constrained hydrodynamic model tests of surface ships, submarines, offshore structures, and renewable energy devices.
