The Role

As a Senior Cost Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in enabling high‑quality, assured cost engineering across some of our most complex projects, directly shaping the success of major bids, programmes and project delivery.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with project teams to develop robust estimates, analyse cost and risk, provide cost engineering assurance, and implement best‑practice techniques across bids and programmes. You will also deliver expert guidance to stakeholders, drive standardised cost engineering processes and contribute to integrated project planning.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and maintaining high‑quality estimates and basis of estimate using a range of cost engineering methods
  • Driving best practice and implementing cost engineering approaches across bids, projects and programmes
  • Leading cost engineering activities for very complex (LCM 4) projects and solving complex cost‑related challenges
  • Producing cost engineering reports and presenting outcomes to senior stakeholders
  • Providing cost engineering assurance and key recommendations for major bid and project reviews
  • Developing and implementing cost assessment and Quantitative Cost Risk Analysis (QCRA) models

 

Essential experience of the Senior Cost Engineer:

  • Deep knowledge of cost engineering principles, including top‑down, bottom‑up and parametric estimating
  • Strong experience conducting Quantitative Cost Risk Analysis (QCRA) and interpreting outputs
  • Extensive experience supporting full project lifecycles, preferably on major complex programmes
  • Ability to work independently as the cost engineering expert while guiding and mentoring others
  • Strong stakeholder engagement abilities, able to influence and communicate cost outcomes confidently
  • Experience using specialist cost engineering tools such as SEER, TruePlanning, Predict! Risk Analyser, @Risk or complex Excel estimating models

 

Essential qualifications for the Senior Cost Engineer:

  • Extensive, relevant cost engineering experience is the priority, and can be considered in place of formal qualifications
  • Nice-to-have: ACostE Certification, ICEAA Certification, or an MSc/BSc/BA in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or similar
  • Nice-to-have: Membership of a relevant professional body such as SCAF, ICEAA or ACostE

This role is full‑time and can be based at any of our main UK locations. Hybrid working patterns are available. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
