Role Purpose

Responsible and accountable for providing strategic leadership for Project Management, setting the direction for people, process and tools. Ensuring strategic initiatives are prioritised and drive enterprise best practice to provide consistent and high-performance delivery. Strategic thinker who drives excellence across the project management community, enabling the company to meet its growth ambition.

 


Key Accountabilities

1.    Strategic Leadership – Lead the strategic development of Project Management, ensuring alignment with business objectives and long-term organisational priorities. Collaborating and influencing sector/function senior stakeholders to drive continuous improvement. 
2.    Shape and contribute to the Integrated Business Plan for Project Management, partnering with senior stakeholders, demonstrating an understanding of the market, customers and competition to build a solid strategy for growth for professional development of the long-term skills and capabilities for our P3M professionals.
3.    Risk Management - Lead and own Performance Portfolio Office (PPO) risks, issues and changes. Implement responses to those risks and respond to issues that affect the PPO. Record and monitor throughout the project lifecycle as per the BMS. Ensuring threats & opportunities are managed in accordance with best practice – overall accountable for using risk information to make informed decisions, escalating to senior leadership where appropriate. This also includes an understanding of wider business risks that may impact PPO delivery. Ensuring that escalation routes are clear.
4.    Set annual performance goals for P3M professionals to support consistent delivery.
5.    Ensure decisions are evidence-based and timely by embedding robust performance data, insights and review mechanisms, driving a strong, empowered, decision-making culture. 
6.    Resource Capacity Planning/Capability Development - Act as the Functional Owner for Project Management recruitment, partnering with the sectors, functions and Workforce Planning to understand the demand and ensure the right capability is deployed across the business. Always having an up-to-date holistic view. Creating opportunity for mobility and driving competency in delivering our projects and programmes.
7.    Drive a culture of high performance by ensuring early identification and escalation of performance delivery concerns are known and supported by timely interventions.
8.    Leadership – Build and champion a collaborative, engaged, and high performing project management community aligned to best practice.
9.    Lead regular communication and engagement across the community to ensure clarity, consistency, and strong alignment to strategic priorities
10.    Promote an inclusive culture where individuals feel supported, motivated, and empowered to deliver successful outcomes
11.    Advocate of change leadership by encouraging new ways of working, challenging the status quo and modelling high standards of leadership. Leading by example.

Experience / Qualifications & Key Capabilities/Knowledge


•    ChPP or demonstrate working towards equivalent certification from accredited body. 
•    Recognised expert in job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Called on by senior leaders for advice and guidance across the business.
•    Applies in-depth knowledge and experience of project management and or business management.
•    Lead and implement project management strategy. Communicate to all relevant stakeholders. Learning and sharing from lessons learnt.
•    Track record of developing and implementing new processes, standards and frameworks that will drive delivery excellence and measurable performance improvement.
•    Demonstrates capability in solving complex problems, assessing risks and making informed decisions in challenging environments.
•    Has in-depth knowledge of lifecycles and recognised as an expert.
•    Has typical +10 years experience of working within project teams and leading large teams within project management. 
•    Proven success in coaching, mentoring and capability. Managing lower level professionals.
•    Has extensive experience of using project management tools such as Microsoft Project, SAP, Oracle and Primervera.
•    Very strong time management and organisational skills.
•    Strategic thinker
•    Thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced and goal driven environment.
