The Role
As a Human Factors Consultant, you will focus on helping us to deliver Human Factors Integration (HFI) projects for our customers.
Day‑to‑day, you’ll be involved in activities such as conducting task and workload analysis, helping to develop user journeys, assessing human–machine interfaces, and contributing to assurance activities such as Human Factors Integration Plans, compliance evidence, and safety cases. You’ll work closely with engineers, designers, end‑users, and project teams to make sure the human element is appropriately considered. You will also support trials, observations, and evaluation activities to gather real‑world insight.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Drive innovation by applying human factors and ergonomics to enhance safety, performance, and accessibility
- Work across domains — land, air, sea, and cyber —to ensure systems account for human capabilities and limitations
- Use your scientific and technical knowledge to provide evidence-based solutions and practical recommendations
- Contribute to meaningful outcomes, from supporting literature reviews, experiments, and user engagement to deliver advice that enhances human performance in safety-critical environments
Essential experience of the Human Factors Consultant:
- A strong understanding in Human Factors/Ergonomics or Psychology
- Demonstrable experience in Human Factors Integration
- An understanding user-centred design method
- High risk, highly regulated industry background is desirable
Essential qualifications for the Human Factors Consultant:
- Ideally you will be chartered with the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors, or working towards or motivated to achieve chartership status in the future

This role is 37 hours per week based at Farnborough. Hybrid working patterns are available.
