QinetiQ is seeking an entry to mid-level Firmware Engineer to support the sensor development effort of a premiere R&D laboratory located at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia.  Sensors include visual, infra-red and other spectral bands.  Engineering work includes controlling the sensors and capturing and analyzing the imagery data from these sensors. 


Your Contribution to the MIssion:


  • Support electrical engineering activities including FPGA designs, circuit, and PCB design.
  • Integration and lab & field testing of cutting-edge prototype hardware systems.
  • Work with microprocessors/microcontrollers to support system development and testing.
  • Collaborate in scientific research, engineering product development, and test activities.
  • Contribute to prototype design reviews.
  • Perform data analysis and write technical reports.
  • Willing to work on site lab prototype development and improvement of large-scale new and current hardware systems.


To Land This Job, You Need:


  • B.S. degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field from an accredited college/university. Masters’ degree or higher is a plus.
  • Experience or coursework related to testing FPGA or CPLD designs in an electronics lab.
  • Working knowledge of electronics test equipment like function generators, digital storage oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and lab power supplies.
  • Well-organized, reliable, attention to detail, demonstrated personal initiative. Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate work with others. Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with cross-functional R&D development teams.
  • Motivated self-starter able to work under minimal supervision and an entrepreneurial approach to roles and responsibilities.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated leadership of small teams or projects.
  • Breadth of experience in a core discipline like circuit design, circuit design, FPGA/microprocessor design, or embedded software.
  • Experience reviewing and documenting the design process into technical data packages.
  • Experience building small prototype devices in academic or home environments.
