QinetiQ Inc. is looking to hire an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support the current manufacturing team at our Lorton, VA C5ISR Headquarters. The Manufacturing Engineer role is a significant contributor to our military-grade sensor equipment assembly and prototyping operations, responsible for assisting in design for manufacturability and assembling of complex prototype systems in a low-volume prototyping and manufacturing lab.

 

Your Contribution to the Mission:

 

  • Develop assembly level work instructions for QinetiQ’s production quantity products for military-grade electro-mechanical systems and products.
  •  Assist in bidding efforts
    • Review of TDP from customer
    • Create BOM for material quoting.
  • Direct setup and staging of all material for efficient production and assembly
  • Will work closely with program managers to ensure timely execution of production efforts, coordinate with internal to team identify and execute product improvements concerning cost, quality, and performance, and work with sales and R&D to develop manufacturing estimates for products once customers and volumes have been established.
  • Responsible for developing or improving existing product lines to increase efficiency and improve company segment profitability.
  • Improves present manufacturing and production processes to increase productivity, quality, and profitability while ensuring safety.
  • Review product BOM for procurement
  • Ensure proper configuration control
  • Manages technical/customer issue resolutions as they arise
  • Help in guiding manufacturing team through daily priorities.
  • Perform highly complex technical functions in support of engineering activities such as set up, operation, maintenance, modification, circuit testing, calibration and troubleshooting of electronic and electro-mechanical components and systems, experimental design circuitry, prototype models, and specialized test equipment.
  • Fabricate cable harnesses, crimp and solder terminations with standard and military-grade connectors, integrate harnesses with Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and various electronic devices, and install various components, resulting in full system integration per IPC standards.
  • Assist in developing work instructions, mechanical/electrical design improvements, and manufacturing process improvements.
  • Develop and perform testing procedures.
  • Repair or modify cables and equipment returned by operational users or personnel in the associated test/development labs.
  • Ensures proper product verification and QA prior to shipment of deliverables.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

To Land This Job, You Need:

 

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in all applicable IPC standards and must hold or be able to obtain IPC-A-610, IPC-WHMA-A-620, and J-STD-001 certifications.
  • Experience with building electro-mechanical box assemblies, flexible cable assemblies and/or a rigid T/C assemblies, bulk cables, cut and strip wires, crimp, potting, solder, cleaning, marking operations, and testing.
  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, organization, and communication skills. 
  • Experienced and capable of working with wiring and terminations.
  • Self-starter
