The Role
We’re looking for a Project Controls Lead to drive best practice, performance, and continuous improvement across our project controls function. In this leadership role, you’ll work closely with senior stakeholders to enhance project control standards, support strategic initiatives, and guide a talented team.
This is a fantastic step‑up opportunity for an experienced Project Manager or Project Controller who’s ready to move into full leadership, shifting from hands‑on delivery into a role where you’ll shape processes, influence strategy, and develop a high‑performing team within a reputable, forward‑thinking organisation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Driving and implementing project controls best practice across the sector
- Overseeing the project and programme portfolio to optimise resource allocation and capability
- Leading the production of dashboards and reports for senior stakeholders, ensuring high data quality
- Providing expert input into business planning and project controls strategy
- Acting as a key stakeholder for globalisation of project tools and continuous improvement
- Leading and developing a high-performing project controls team
Essential experience of the Project Controls Lead:

Proven experience leading and developing project controls or project delivery teams, including coaching, mentoring and performance management
- Extensive experience leading large project control teams within complex project environments
- Demonstrable experience influencing senior stakeholders and driving strategic improvement

Experience developing and implementing new standards, processes or plans within a complex organisation

Ability to interpret complex project data and communicate insights clearly to senior stakeholders
- In-depth expertise across project controls disciplines including schedule, cost, risk and change
Essential qualifications for the Project Controls Lead:

Strong practical understanding of Project Controls and Project Management, including planning, scheduling, reporting, governance and performance management

ECITB Level 6 Diploma, APM, PRINCE2 or other project controls/project management certifications are beneficial, but not essential. We can fully support you in achieving your ECITB qualification, so candidates should simply be willing to work toward this

Experience with Primavera, Oracle Fusion, SAP, Microsoft Project or similar systems, advantageous but not required
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and manage project controls professionals

This role is 37 hours per week based at Malvern. Hybrid working patterns are available.

The Malvern facility is noted for its work in electronic warfare, surveillance and complex system integration, contributing significantly to the UK’s defence capabilities. Developing technologies for military and civilian applications, including sensors, communications and cyber security.
