The Role
As a Senior Electronic Warfare Scientist / Engineer, you will lead and deliver advanced electronic warfare and radar research and development, helping to shape the next generation of sensing and radio frequency (RF) technologies for defence customers.

 

You will join a team of around forty scientists and engineers. Day-to-day, operating largely autonomously, you will lead and deliver complex research and development projects, guide multi-disciplinary teams, work closely with defence customers, and drive innovation in RF sensing, signal processing and system performance.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and delivering complex electronic warfare engineering projects
  • Developing and applying advanced signal processing and algorithm solutions
  • Supporting system design, modelling, testing and performance assessment activities
  • Working directly with customers to define requirements and present technical outputs
  • Providing technical leadership, mentoring and guidance within the team
  • Contributing to innovation and the development of new capabilities and business opportunities

 

Essential experience of the Senior Electronic Warfare Scientist / Engineer:

  • Demonstrable expertise in electronic warfare and/or radar, ideally in a defence context (e.g. trilateration, time and frequency difference of arrival)
  • Experience across radar waveform design, signal processing, modelling or algorithm development
  • Experience in leading and coordinating technical work within a specialist team, and providing supervision to team members
  • Experience authoring reports or technical deliverables on an engineering project
  • Experience leading on bids for research and development programmes, driving business development
  • Strong problem-solving skills applied to complex, non-routine technical challenges
  • Experience working with customers and stakeholders in a delivery-focused environment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly

Desirable / helpful experience:

Previous experience of some of the following depending on particular specialism:

  • Developing and analysing algorithms using MATLAB and/or Python
  • Applied use of machine learning / AI
  • Direction finding antenna
  • Radar backend processing and algorithm research
  • Controlled software development
  • Undertaking / running trials, trial data analysis and performance assessment
  • Working with defence customers and suppliers

Essential qualifications for the Senior Electronic Warfare Scientist / Engineer:
• Degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent professional qualification

This role is 37 hours per week based at Malvern. Hybrid working patterns are available.
