The Role
As an Installation CAD Engineer, you’ll primarily be employed in the Shore Integration Facility (SIF) and National Maritime Systems Centre (NMSC) at Portsdown Technology Park (PTP), Portsmouth.
Day-to-day, you’ll produce Installation Guidance Packages which will be used by installation teams to enable them to install equipment into the facilities. You’ll be working with a small, dedicated Design team to assist with the installation and deinstallation of equipment into the SIF & NMSC where you’ll be answerable to the Control Systems and Electrical Engineer Team Lead.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Working with project managers to understand customer requirements and help create a plan to integrate the works necessary through the production and reviewing of (IGP’s) Installation Guidance Packages
- Liaising with the Electrical and Mechanical Fitting team to understand requirements for the design
- Produce CAD drawings and other installation documentation
- Produce CAD drawings to aid the installation of the equipment
- Creation of Electrical & Mechanical Drawings including (Not Exhaustive) room layouts, cable routes, wiring diagrams, cable data sheets and mechanical
- Adhere to the IGP KPI, which is a measuring tool to gauge the progress of the IGP Process
Essential experience of the Installation CAD Engineer:
- Analytical and investigative skills to turn basic requirements Information into a comprehensive Installation Guidance Package
- To be able to create CAD drawings which are mainly 2D
- Electrical knowledge or competency
- Experience of the Maritime sector (or similar industries such as defence, aviation, Oil & Gas or Military background)
- Proficient in AutoCAD and DraftSight software (desirable)
Essential qualifications for the Installation CAD Engineer:
- An Electrical/Mechanical Bias
- Proficient in AutoCAD and DraftSight software
- Experience with Solid Works

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Portsmouth site with a minimum average site attendance of five days per week. Flexible working and compressed hours available (9 day fortnight).

Portsmouth Technology Park (PTP) is one of QinetiQ’s key facilities, focusing on advanced technology development and engineering services. It is dedicated to research and development, ensuring that complex systems are designed, integrated, and tested effectively to meet operational requirements. The facility utilises sophisticated modelling and simulation techniques to analyse and predict performance.
