Role Purpose:
The Noise & Vibration team is seeking a motivated engineering graduate to join the team and support the delivery of noise and vibration related activities across a range of projects.
The role is a graduate development position, providing the opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a practical engineering environment while building technical competency under the guidance of experienced engineers.
The successful candidate will contribute to Noise & Vibration related technical activities, including data analysis, modelling & simulation, field trials, laboratory experimentation, and research & development.
Key Accountabilities:
Reporting to the Noise & Vibration Team Lead, the Graduate Engineer will:
- Support noise and vibration projects via assistance with measurement, analysis, and data processing activities;
- Work as a developing member of the field trials team, assisting with the preparation, conduct, and post‑trial analysis of measurements;
- Support senior team members in the delivery of project tasks to agreed quality, schedule, and cost requirements;
- Prepare technical notes, calculations, and sections of reports, under supervision;
- Operate in compliance with health, safety, environmental, quality, and security requirements; and
- Demonstrate professional integrity and a willingness to learn at all times.
Key Capabilities/Knowledge:
The key capabilities / knowledge required to satisfy this role and as follows:
Technical Capability (Developing):

Understanding of the fundamental principles of noise and vibration theory;
-
Awareness of vibration and acoustic measurement techniques and instrumentation;
-
Introductory knowledge of signal processing concepts and interpretation of measurement data; and
-
Willingness to develop practical skills in experimental methods and data acquisition systems.
Analytical & Computing Skills:
-
Methodical approach to numerical analysis and data handling;
-
Working knowledge of engineering computing tools such as MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, or similar packages; and
-
Ability to develop basic scripts, models, or analysis routines with guidance and support.
Domain Knowledge:
-
Educational background in engineering, science, or mathematics;
-
Basic understanding of noise and vibration measurement and analysis;
-
Basic understanding of acoustic radiation and propagation; and
-
Familiarity with naval platforms and marine engineering systems is advantageous but not essential.
Professional Attributes:

Clear and concise technical writing skills, appropriate for reports and documentation;

Self‑motivated with a positive attitude to learning and development;

Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with a range of stakeholders; and

Calm, adaptable, and professional when working in operational environments.
Work Environment & Flexibility:

Willingness to travel and support short‑duration deployments (typically up to two weeks); and

Comfortable working in laboratories, naval shipyards, and onboard naval platforms, following appropriate safety procedures.
Experience & Qualifications:
Essential:
-
Obtained or working towards an undergraduate degree in engineering, science, mathematics, or a related technical discipline;

Demonstrable aptitude for analytical work, technical report writing;
-
IT literate across multiple software packages, including MS Office applications;
-
Be self-motivated, a team player and good communication skills; and
Desirable :
-
Aptitude and desire to conduct field measurements on naval ships and submarines.

Knowledge and experience of vibration analysis, measurement and modelling;
-
Knowledge and experience of marine engineering systems.
-
Knowledge and experience of machine and structural dynamics.
-
Knowledge and experience of digital signal processing.
-
Skilled in the use of scientific computing programmes, such as MATLAB, LabVIEW and Python.
Appropriate training, mentoring, and development will be provided to support the Graduate Engineer in building the technical skills and domain knowledge required for this role. Development will be structured to enable progression towards increased responsibility and technical independence over time.
