The Role
As an Airworthiness Clearance Support Engineer, you will be a digital QinetiQ employee embedded in a team working within the Royal Air Force’s Air & Space Warfare centre providing technical expertise to help cutting-edge flight trials gain airworthiness clearances.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll work with test and evaluation squadrons on gaining airworthiness clearances, helping accelerate the pace of innovation and military capability development in the air domain to meet current national security challenges.
 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • The reviewing of technical documentation and advising to the Chief Test Pilot and the Chief Air Engineer on clearances and approvals for flight trials
  • Developing appropriate Air System Safety Case claims, arguments and evidence to support duty holder approvals for flight trials
  • Working with Defence Equipment & Support delivery teams and the Military Aviation authority to set policies for airworthiness clearances for flight trials
  • Working with Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisations and Maintenance Organisations to ensure that plans for trial modifications are appropriately approved and managed
  • Managing an iterative process of airworthiness hazard analysis and trial design to ensure that critical trials proceed rapidly with risks appropriately managed

 

Essential experience of the Airworthiness Clearance Support Engineer: 

  • Previous experience and knowledge working with Defence Equipment & Support delivery teams on airworthiness clearance activities
  • A strong understanding of military continuing airworthiness management regulations and practices
  • Strong experience and knowledge of working with the Military Aviation Authority to gain alternative acceptable means of compliance, waivers and exemptions
  • A high level technical understanding of some of the following disciplines: Aerodynamics, air system structural integrity, flight dynamics, safety critical software assurance, avionics systems integration, complex weapons and broad aerospace engineering knowledge
  • Previous experience generating solutions to technical and regulatory challenges with a strong background in leadership

 

Essential qualifications for the Airworthiness Clearance Support Engineer:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent

This role is 37 hours per week based at RAF Waddington. Hybrid working patterns available. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
