Job purpose:

Candidate will participate in mechanical design changes and support production of military and commercial products. Products will include electromechanical packaged assemblies (militarized and commercial), robotics and automated machinery. Candidate should be proficient using 3-D Solid Modeling software (Solidworks or PTC Creo) and have an understanding of manufacturing and testing practices. The candidate will perform as an engineering team member on projects, create and implement design changes, and act as an engineering liaison to manufacturing and quality.  The candidate shall also be “hands-on” with abilities support mechanical design and product issues related to various DoD pre-production and production programs.  Candidate will also participate in the formal Engineering Change process. 

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Electromechanical design, layout, and modeling of electro-mechanical assemblies (using Solidworks), machinery and mechanisms.
  • Resolve manufacturing and quality issues, and report on equipment build status.
  • Perform basic tolerance analysis.
  • Create non-conformance reports and provide technical justification for material disposition.
  • Interface with vendors to help them with any questions that they have.
  • Creation of detail designs and drawings for fabrication.

 

Required knowledge
Design – Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. 
Clerical – Experience with a CAD PDM system a plus.  Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records.

Required Skills

Computer Aided Design – Must have experience with either PTC Creo or Solidworks. 

Drafting – Preferably have experience with creation of detailed drawing and geometric tolerancing (ASME Y14.5).

Communication- Must demonstrate excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Computer- Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

 

Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years’ experience in mechanical design (0-3 yrs. with MSME).
  • Ability to provide hands on support for building prototype designs, test equipment and perform operational testing of robotic vehicles.
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication, machining and welding processes.
  • Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering BS (or equivalent).
