Lead Enterprise Architect

This is a new role for a Lead Enterprise Architect for the QinetiQ Group.  This is a fantastic opportunity to drive the design and delivery of an enterprise architectural approach for QinetiQ.  You will be working in the DDA in the CIO office and engaging group wide with other architecture teams. 
 
The Lead Enterprise Architect will be working with QinetiQ colleagues across the globe and as such, the role can be based from the UK, USA, or Australia and will involve regular travel. 

 

The Digital and Data Design Authority (DDA), is a new organisation within QinetiQ that will set the strategic vision for the QinetiQ IT estate and support the transformation of the business in to a global organisation. Specifically it will:
 
•    Own the Strategic Vision for QinetiQ’s global corporate IT estate and reflect this through a set of Enterprise Architectures.
•    Manage the overall set of Requirements relating to Digital Transformation initiatives within QinetiQ.
•    Manage the formation of Standards, Policies and Guidance to support delivery across the business.
•    Propose new interventions, and be part of the approvals process for global/ strategic IT investments.
 
This role is for the Lead Enterprise Architect for the DDA. This is a strategic, global role that will own the development of a set of Enterprise Architectures (EA) for QinetiQ and develop and lead a team to deliver operating processes and artefacts needed to support the DDA.
 
This role will help the business to enable the delivery of solutions to our company Business Strategies, ensuring that the enterprise landscape for QinetiQ remains relevant, up-to-date, supportable, efficient and a business enabler. The Lead Enterprise Architect will help plan, execute, and measure the strategy of the EA across the global IT landscape.
 
This will involve interfacing with all levels of leadership to identify business opportunities, support strategic projects, and guide long-term technology innovation changes and enable strategy work.
 
They will facilitate the creation, upkeep and socialisation of the DDA artefacts, including catalogues, matrices and models along with the governing materials, so they are translated into clear roadmaps, principles, policies, guidelines, standards, and requirements.
 
•    DELIVER: Leading the EA team to contribute directly to enabling the company's modernisation journey, supporting them to develop, provide, and guide architecture services underpinned by enterprise architecture artefacts showing alignment to the business capabilities and enterprise strategies.
•    DEVELOP: Develop Architectural artefacts, and support principles, policies, guidelines and standards for maintaining and operating the global enterprise Information and Technology (IT) estate.
•    ASSURE: Manage, participate, operate and maintain the DDA governance to oversee the implementation, development and operation of the global enterprise Information and Technology (IT) estate across QinetiQ.
 
Key Capabilities/Knowledge
•    Minimum 3+ years leading an Enterprise Architecture practice or IT architecture team.
•    Minimum 5+ years’ Experience in an IT architecture role.
•    Minimum 7+ years of IT experience within Global IT environments, including cloud and third-party outsourced components.
•    Hands-on experience working with an Enterprise Architecture framework (TOGAF preferable, alternatively Zachman, DoDAF, FEAF, PEAF, ESAAF, etc. )
•    Ability to help plan, execute, and measure the strategy of the EA across the global landscape of QinetiQ.
•    Ability to assist in evaluating new solutions as they are proposed/introduced to the environment, assessing the existing portfolio of applications and technologies as part of a continuous cycle of evaluation and rationalisation.
•    Develop new strategic initiatives and customer relationships while continuing to enhance pre-existing initiatives and relationships
•    Work across departments, projects and disciplines.
•    Inquisitive and able to see the ‘big picture. 
•    Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
•    The ability to work independently and as part of a team collaborating with other Enterprise Architects and the wider QinetiQ community.
 
Experience & Qualifications
•    Technical Degree (Computer Science, Maths, Engineering or equivalent) and/or relevant technical experience
•    Experience in analysis and interpretation of large, complex IT/technology products and services
•    Will require to be SC cleared in the UK or global equivalent
•    Experience in both verbal and written communications
•    Experience in group session facilitation
•    Experience in concept marketing ("selling" the results of architectural approaches)
•    Experience in analysis and design
•    Experience in Gathering & Cataloguing information related to application functions, applications, technology functions, technologies, and other information related to the enterprise landscape
•    Experience in modelling, cataloguing and mapping to drive the creation of graphical representations, decompositions and abstractions. Experience developing and building models based on Enterprise Architecture methodologies.
•    Experience in prioritisation, trade-off analysis, psychology, and other management skills
•    Experience in translating global and business strategies and business capabilities into application and technology functions
•    Experience of working in highly-regulated environments and meeting specific compliance programmes
