About the team:
As part of the Long Term Partnering Arrangement (LTPA) QinetiQ has with MOD, a number of facilities and systems that are maintained around the country to support the test and evaluation of military assets. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high performing team of multi-disciplinary engineers delivering critical test and evaluation of defence related Air Range trials and projects. As part of this team, you will develop the necessary skills to simulate some of the most challenging environments in the world to ensure that the systems are ultimately safe and suitable for release to service.

QinetiQ's Engineers are renowned for providing high quality, independent technical advice to a wide range of customers, in support of their major acquisition programmes, and for developing our own range of world-leading products. We are looking for people to join our growing team of Test and Evaluation Systems Engineers who are interested in applying and developing their technical expertise, across a number of domains, both military and commercial.
Location:
The day-to-day activities will be carried out at the Hebrides Range in Scotland and Aberporth Range in Wales, it will consist of 6-month placements with four rotations to each Range, There will also be occasional travel to other QinetiQ sites for training.
What will I be doing?
Duties will include assisting with Range investment projects for example; upgrading the Trial Controls System, New tracking and surveillance RADAR requirements, Digital Communications, Digital expansion of Range Capabilities, and you may find yourself leading specific areas or the development of sub-systems, with appropriate supervision. The role will require you to be involved in establishing a knowledge of a broad application of Range systems engineering and Trials delivery knowledge, from the establishing of user needs through to final delivery. There will be regular customer contact resulting in the design, management, documentation and delivery of robust engineering solutions in conjunction with the Range and Project Management community.
Typically, you will work across a number of these areas and develop strong whole lifecycle experience:
- Support the Senior System Engineers and Technical Leads on relevant technical matters relating to a range of areas across the system being developed;
- Engage with customers, other stakeholders, and suppliers;
- Work as part of a technical team in support of project objectives and contract deliverables in accordance with the Technical Delivery Plan;
- Contribute to the planning of trials including the production of test plans, execution of trial activities and post-trial analysis;
- Assist in the production of technical documentation.
- Deliver work and reports on progress to more senior technical and project staff;
- Escalate significant problems and issues encountered to senior technical and project staff;
- Assist the nominated lead for the delivery of delegated project tasks and may be required to lead on less complex project work;
Academic requirements:
You will need to have attained or working towards a degree with a key focus on any of the disciplines listed.

Additional requirements:
- Have a strong interest and/or experience within System Engineering
- Have a strong interest and/or experience within Test and Evaluation or Integration
- Self-motivated team member that takes ownership of tasking whilst operating collaboratively within a dynamic team.
- Flexible approach to tasking potentially be able to support multiple projects or tasks in a variety of stages of development.
- Be prepared to travel to customer and QinetiQ sites on a project-dependent basis to support project delivery.
