The Role
As a Building Services Tradesman, you’ll be responsible for the delivery of maintenance across all aspects of building fabric, including plumbing, carpentry, plastering or roofing, undertaking pre-preventive maintenance, repair, and reactive tasks.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll support pre-planned maintenance work which will involve water hygiene tasks, plumbing, legionnaire control and temperature checks. Further tasks will include maintenance support of installations which may be planned, preventive or corrective in relation to site services, plant/equipment and buildings.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering specialist technical maintenance support services in relation to building plant/equipment
  • Providing maintenance support across water hygiene and plumbing
  • Supporting the delivery of a high-quality business service working autonomously within defined procedures
  • Supporting resilience across Business Services and learn new skills as identified by the Team Leader
  • Resolving queries and articulate more complex issues to the relevant supervisor
  • Other duties may include general maintenance including painting, decorating and bricklaying

 

Essential experience of the Building Services Tradesman:

  • Proven experience as a Multi-Skilled Tradesman including plumbing and water hygiene
  • Able to demonstrate a full and thorough understanding of operational health & safety and safe working practises
  • Capable of completing essential paperwork accurately and in a timely manner
  • Competent computer skills, including MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, MS Teams), and the ability to learn new software systems

 

Essential qualifications for the Building Services Tradesman:

  • BTEC level 3, ONC/OND or NVQ level 3 in a Plumbing, Carpentry, Plastering or Roofing discipline
  • Full clean (UK) valid driving license

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Boscombe Down site. Overtime with pay is available alongside a nine-working day fortnight (compressed hours).

MOD Boscombe Down is a unique operational site featuring the longest military runway in the UK. Primarily focusing on providing testing, evaluation and support services for aviation and aerospace systems. Renowned for its extensive flight-testing capabilities the site plays a vital role in the UK’s aviation defence contributing to the development, testing and airworthiness of military aircraft enhancing operational readiness and effectiveness.
