About the role


We are currently recruiting an Electronics Wire Technician to join our Production team in QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS). QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state of the art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems including the world leading Banshee target.

 

QTS targets are used to enable realistic weapons test and evaluation and operator training in over 40 countries worldwide with QTS providing a complete managed service in over 15 of these countries.

 

What will I be doing?

 

Reporting to the Electronics Supervisor, you will be responsible for carrying out production activities including; wiring harnesses, looms, cable assemblies, PCB’s, batteries and various electro-mechanical assemblies.

 

Duties will include:

 

  • populating Printed Circuit Boards (PCB’s), through-hole and surface mounted component soldering
  • Wiring of complex harnesses, looms and cables
  • assembling electro-mechanical assemblies
  • using basic hand tools including crimp tools
  • quality inspection checks on assemblies

 

What do I need?

 

You will have the ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and engineering drawings as well as excellent attention to detail.

 

We also ask that you have:

 

  • good practical skills
  • knowledge of Production process to a high standard
  • the ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • good communication skills
  • problem solving skills
  • good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

 

 

It is desirable to have:

 

  • Knowledge / a certificate in IPC-610, IPC-620
  • Experience of continuous improvement tools e.g. Kaizen, 5S, Six Sigma and SOP’s
  • Experience of working on prototyping / pre-production products
  • ESD awareness
