About the role

We are currently recruiting a Senior Aerosystems Engineer to join QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) within our Engineering Team. QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state of the art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems including the world leading Banshee target.


QTS targets are used to enable realistic weapons test and evaluation and operator training in over 40 countries worldwide with QTS providing a complete managed service in over 15 of these countries.

What will I be doing?


Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will provide broad Subject Matter Expertise across all areas of Aerospace Engineering and leadership in platform design and integration.


Duties will include:


  • Technical Leadership of medium sized Engineering Design Projects and provide Aerosystems expertise to larger projects
  • Deputise for the Chief Engineer as required
  • Develop deep understanding of existing product range and provide advanced technical support to customers – in particular helping with telemetry analysis and profile design.
  • Provision of aviation expertise to support the design and conduct of QTS Flight Trials.
  • Ensure that Engineering activities are delivered in line with company process. Assist in the development of processes to facilitate the success of future development projects.
  • Development and mentoring of junior staff to facilitate future growth of the business
  • Support to trials / customer flights. Estimated 10% travel overseas.


What do I need?


You will have a degree in Engineering (Masters level desirable) and extensive experience in an aircraft or missile design environment, at a platform level.


You’ll also have broad aerospace engineering knowledge including expertise in platform design and integration and strong systems engineering skills.

  • Have a strong understanding of other engineering disciplines to enable effective systems integration
  • Are a Chartered Engineer
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Open, honest, enthusiastic team player
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Self-motivated and able to track and complete many tasks without close supervision
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Ability to prioritise tasks from a larger requirement
  • Attention to detail
  • Present a considered and professional attitude to external contractors & customers
  • Knowledge of Solidworks / Matlab / CFD tools desirable
