Join us as a Systems Engineering Manager at our Ashford site where you will work within QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS),  specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems, including the world leading Banshee target.

 

QTS targets are used to enable realistic weapons test and evaluation and operator training in over forty countries worldwide with QTS providing a complete managed service in over fifteen of these countries.

 

The Role
As a Systems Engineering Manager reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for developing Systems Engineering Processes, identifying best practice across the Department and supporting the Head of Engineering in delivering excellence in this area.

 

Day to day you will lead, plan and direct a small team of highly professional engineers with responsibility for Systems Engineering within the business.

  • Executing systems engineering activities including requirements management, product compliance demonstration and validation and  verification activities in line with company processes and contributing to facilitate the success of the future development projects.
  • Work with the Customer Accounts Team to capture customer requirements and manage this through the bid and project life cycle.
  • Approving technical documentation such Technical Proposals, Programme Qualification Plans, Flight Test Plans/Procedures, Flight Test Reports and other product/project technical documentation.
  • Manage engineers personal development plans/performance and recruitment of new engineers into business.
  • Provide technical leadership to projects where appropriate, ensuring successful Integration of inputs from subject matter expert from across the Engineering Department.
  • Provide technical support and advice to customers and internal stakeholders including the Field Services Team.

 

This role is full time, 37-hour per weeks, with a flexible hybrid working arrangement. You may be required to support Flight Test campaigns with estimated 10% travel overseas.

 

Essential experience of the Systems Engineering Manager

  • Significant relevant Systems engineering experience (ideally in an aircraft or missile development environment at platform leve)l through the full project life cycle from initial proposal through requirements development, design, testing, qualification, certification and production release phases.
  • Programme / Project Management Experience;  technically managing projects, working with Project Managers to ensure time, cost and quality expectations are met.
  • The ability to decompose and effectively manage and integrate multiple product requirements within a multi-discipline environment (Aerospace, Electronics, Mechanical & Software etc).
  • A strong understanding of Systems Engineering Principles and Experience of Systems Integration & Systems performance evaluation through application of Verification & Validation methods
  • Previously held technical approval authority / delegation (desirable).
  • Extensive leadership and team management; planning, organising abilities with focus on project plan execution.
  • The ability to manage a complex network of stakeholders, external contractors and  customers.
  • An understanding of safety and airworthiness as relevant to the Aerial Targets Industry (desirable)
  • Exposure to Model Based Systems Engineering (desirable)

 

Qualifications for the Systems Engineering Manager

  • You will be degree qualified in a relevant Engineering Discipline
  • Have Chartered Engineer Status or working towards
