About the team


Project Controller:

Project Controllers work directly in our sectors. They are a key enabler to allow our Project Managers to deliver cutting-edge solutions to performance, cost and time objectives. They support with transforming a plan into a concrete schedule for delivery. Our Project Controllers are the primary resource who provide support and work alongside in partnership with our Project Managers on a daily basis to ensure that all budgeting, scheduling and other activities run smoothly.


Project Controllers are diligent, have an eye for detail, are strong communicators and have the foresight to spot any abnormalities in the data before it becomes an issue. Our Project Controls Apprenticeships provide a structured introduction to the profession, allowing you to combine academic studies with on-the-job learning. As your skills develop, you will take on progressively more responsibility until you are a fully qualified and highly competent QinetiQ Project Controller, acting as a vital member of a project team.


What will I be doing?

As part of the Project Controls Apprenticeship, you could be responsible for activities such as;

  • Support to the Project Controls team with data and information to enable reporting and decision making, including highlighting inconsistencies in the data/information and recommending suitable actions.
  • Support the following project controls activities within the project controls team; planning, scheduling, document control and other project control related activities.
  • Working closely with Project Managers and project teams to monitor project finances, milestones, debtors, invoicing and cash collection.
  • Support Project Controls improvement activity, and sharing knowledge skills and best practice.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to support in developing and maintaining detailed resource loaded schedules of projects.
  • Support the team in identifying major milestones, decision points, project life-cycle and other project events.
  • Support with troubleshooting and monitor potential scheduling problems.
  • Report on trends, forecasts, project contingency, and schedule risks and opportunities.
  • Working towards a Level 3 Project Controls Technician Apprenticeship, Project controls technician / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education


Academic requirements:

You will need to have attained or be predicted 5 GCSES A*-C, 5-9. This must include:

  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • IT


Additional requirements:

  • Be willing to learn and have demonstrated an aptitude for learning at pace.
  • Show a passion for understanding how business processes work and opportunities to improve.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, both written & verbal.
  • Please be aware that many roles within QinetiQ will be subject to both security and export control restrictions.
