Explosive Material Lifing & Energetics Specialist
Are you interested in working at the forefront of Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance technology in Australian Defence?
QinetiQ is looking for the right person to join its team of technical experts. You will be a motivated and highly experienced degree qualified Industrial Chemist or Chemical Engineer with deep knowledge of energetics and explosive materials.
With strong team, communication and leadership skills, you will be able to synthesis and provide expert advice concerning explosive materials. This will include an appreciation of contemporary standards and the ability to conduct assessments and reviews concerning explosive material: performance/non-performance, failure modes, aging, environmental degradation, storage, lifing, testing and in-service surveillance requirements. With this skill set and ability, you will play a pivotal role supporting our Defence client in the acquisition and certification of new weapons and munitions. This will include safe introduction into service, and their ongoing in-service management for assured safety and performance.
As a senior member of the QinetiQ technical team and valued subject matter expert, you will provide key input to company planning and ongoing development of our engineering capability and staff.

As our ideal applicant, you will come equipped with;
- Experience as a Scientist, Explosive Ordnance Engineer or Discipline Specialist, ideally with higher degree qualifications or relevant continual training to maintain professional competencies in the assessment and lifing of energetics and EO materiel.
- Professional ability to work as an effective team member, making responsible decisions on matters assigned, including; consulting, recommending and advising on the assessment and lifing of energetics and EO materiel.
- Thorough understanding of design standards associated with the assessment and lifing of energetics and EO materiel including:
- STANAG 4439 – Policy for Introduction and Assessment of Insensitive Munitions
- AOP-62 – In-Service Surveillance of Munitions – General Guidance, and supporting publications,
- AECTP-600 – The Ten Step Method for Evaluating the Ability of Material to meet Extended Life Requirements and Role and Deployment Changes
Due to the nature of this role, you will need to hold a current NV1 Australian Security Clearance
