We are pleased to welcome applications from experienced Linux Engineers with current security clearance (NV2 minimum) for an opportunity with a key Defence client in Canberra.
Should our bid be successful, our Linux Engineer will be required to develop and maintain software components using automation solutions for the installation process. In doing so, they will ensure that all solutions are documented and integrate with interfacing systems. Working within the team this Engineer will need to support other team members, including on-site representatives, to fault find and diagnose system faults as they arise. It is expected that the resource fulfilling this position will be able to work both independently and as part of the broader team to meet objectives, providing advice as required on suitable solutions for the development of the product.
In more specific terms, the Linux Engineer will:
- Design and document the HQOTM MPE node
- Review and provide advice on the design and implementation of interfacing systems
- Develop and maintain software components and integrate existing software components and applications
- Automate solution installation
- Build, administer, and support production HQOTM MPE nodes
- Contribute to training material development
- Perform level three support of production system
- Baseline and maintain system configuration control and maintain the software list
- Develop and implement the 'Patch Management Plan' for HQOTM MPE nodes
In terms of skills and experience, this role calls for:
- Substantial experience developing software for Linux operating systems
- Experience customising and administering Linux based servers and applications and in 'hardening' Linux operating systems
- Experience automating and scripting application installation and customisation
- Experience developing and maintaining Linux standard operating environment (SOE) images
- Strong technical documentation development experience
- Experience with DEVOPS methodologies
- An ability to provide technical advice grounded in broader business requirements
Whilst not essential, experience in some or all of the following will be advantageous:
- Experience working with deployable communication and information systems (CIS)
- Understanding of systems engineering processes and knowledge of the Defence Capability Lifecycle
- Experience working within agile project management framework
- Experience developing Ansible scripting and/ or with Openstack
- Experience developing and maintaining Windows standard operating environments (SOE)
What is essential is a current Defence security clearance to NV2 (or higher). Unfortunately applicants without clearance to this level cannot be considered on this occasion.
