We are currently looking for a Principal System Engineer. to join our Advisory business, based in Canberra


QinetiQ has a number of new opportunities to support the growth of the company in the delivery of capability to our clients. As such, we are currently looking for an experienced Systems Engineer Specialist to join our Advisory business, based in Canberra.


As part of our support to Australian Government departments, your role as a Principal Systems Engineer is to focus on the delivery of Pre-Gate Zero and Post-Gate One material and documentation that may arise during the execution and delivery of the project deliverables. The Services, to be delivered in collaboration with and under supervision by nominated Department and project personnel, include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Development of required documentation for progression through the Department Capability Lifecycle Management Model (CLCMM)
  • Manage the preparation of Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) that the materiel being delivered by the Project and Work Package(s) (WP) meets the requirements of the Executive Authority
  • Provide technical advice and recommendations to the Project Lead and Project Director
  • Development of required documentation for project maturity
  • Communication within the Capability Manager and other stakeholders
  • Work effectively in a small team environment
  • Provide knowledge/skills transfer to other team members
  • Provide dedicated project support to the project
  • Record and maintain files/information in accordance with the Department requirements



To be successful in the role of Principal System Engineer you will require:


  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering, maritime capability, CASG project and Test & Evaluation planning
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering high quality capability documentation to enable the project to attain Initial Material Release (IMR), Initial Operational Capability (IOC), and Final Operational Capability (FOC) on time and budget
  • Experience in planning, analysis, and development of material introduction into service requirements with an understanding of and experience in processing materiel
  • Formal qualifications from a recognised tertiary institute or relevant industry experience
  • Understanding of ASDEFCON processes and defence contracting
  • Previous experience in developing CLC safety cases, and other engineering technical documents


Applicants MUST hold or have recently held an NV1 Australian Government security clearance.
