Mission Systems Specialist

Date: 17-Mar-2023

Location: Coningsby, England, GB

Company: QinetiQ

Cyber, Analysis and Mission Solutions

Location: Lincolnshire

Company: QinetiQ

About the Role:

QinetiQ is seeking a systems engineer to provide software and analysis support in a customer-facing environment. Applicants would ideally have a STEM degree that includes coding and analysis skills and/or demonstrable experience in the field. The role could be tailored to a recent graduate, or someone with experience of working in the field. Experience of a customer environment and/or information exploitation techniques would be an added benefit.

You will work as part of QinetiQ’s team embedded within 41 Test and Evaluation Squadron at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. In this exciting and challenging role, you will be part of a growing team of experts who influence the way mission systems are designed for, and operated by, the RAF’s Typhoon aircraft. Working alongside (and mentored by) the QinetiQ lead support engineer, you will be part of the team supporting Typhoon flight trials. Your work will include designing, developing and maintaining software tools, primarily in MATLAB, for the analysis of flight test data. You will work closely with the end-user for the entire software lifecycle – from the requirement, through development and delivery, to in-service maintenance.

Working in partnership with the customer and helping them to succeed in an increasingly complex environment means that the work is dynamic and rewarding, with an immediate feedback loop that promotes continuous improvement. You will also have the opportunity to provide training and advice on the use of software tools, analysis methods and processes, and you will gain an insight into the planning, management and execution of fast jet flight trials. As part of the wider QinetiQ team, you will also have the opportunity to develop your skills in other cyber, analysis and mission solutions areas.

What will I be doing?

•        Develop and support in-house software tools used in the analysis of Typhoon flight trials flown by our military colleagues.

•        Provide training and advice on the use of software tools, analysis methods and processes.

•        Support the effective delivery of key defence outputs, help to gain early visibility of potential issues, and be part of the early resolution of problems.

What do I need?

•        Degree in a science, engineering or maths subject and/or demonstrable and suitable experience.

•        Sole UK national and willing to undergo UK Government security vetting.

•        Innovative, a self-starter, and driven to deliver great results.

•        Eager to learn and able to apply knowledge.

•        Shows initiative, offers solutions to problems.

•        Enthusiastic team player, also able to motivate others.

•        Quality-conscious with sound risk awareness.

•        Able to follow processes and procedure

Please note that all applicants must be eligible for SC clearance as a minimum.
