THIS ROLE IS FULL TIME ONSITE IN FARNBOROUGH
This is an exciting opportunity for a Server Engineer to join a team, supporting them in the upgrade and maintenance of Windows and Linux servers and clients on a project distributing oceanographic and weather information.
The candidate shall have practical experience of installing and configuring Microsoft and Microsoft Hyper-V. Working under a Senior Engineer, the candidate will be responsible for the delivery of their own tasks and take responsibility for the task’s technical output, quality, and documentation.
The applicant will be at ease working within a small to medium sized team and be comfortable taking on new tasks outside of their skill set as required by the business.
The position is based on site in Farnborough, but travel to QinetiQ and Customer sites may be required.
This role requires the candidate to hold or gain DV clearance.
Position Requirements
- Proactively work with technical leads and manage their own tasks to ensure delivered solution follow the defined design process.
- Keep abreast of industry trends and advancements in information technology
Build and enhance relationships with peers and QinetiQ’s infrastructure services - Be responsible for undertaking project work across the team as required – participation in reference groups, training and research on new functionality etc.
- Willingness to upskill in any gaps in technical knowledge and become certified
- Willingness to travel within the UK and potentially overseas
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Excellent communication – verbal and written
- Windows server and client build and configuration
- Willingness to learn new technology
- Practical experience in Microsoft server and client implementation, configuration and testing (ideally holding Microsoft qualifications)
- Practical experience of Windows Server Hypervisor (virtualisation), design, implementation, configuration and testing
- Software scripting
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Knowledge and experience of Linux administration
- Knowledge and experience of security and event monitoring tools administration
- Knowledge of MOD networks and systems
