Role Purpose

As a key member of the Maritime & Land Business Finance team this role delivers key finance and accounting outputs to the business without supervision. You will be expected to train, guide and support others (whilst not having direct line management responsibility) as well as developing your own accounting knowledge and experience

You will be required to provide first class financial data which is timely, accurate and relevant, whilst complying with standard processes, procedures and QinetiQ finance policies.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Attend/Lead on regular Project/Cost Centre review meetings, liaising with Senior MAs, DFCs, Project and IDT Managers and Cost Centre Managers, including travel to various sites. A key aspect of this process is to develop Assistant Management Accountants into becoming the lead in these reviews
  • Support to line management with forecasting and budgeting rounds for your area, ensuring that reviews take place and completed to deadlines each month. Supporting DFCs with the preparation of LBEs and other regular forecasting requirements.
  • Preparation of statutory accounts at half and full year and to produce monthly management accounts, including reconciliations for a business area.
  • Resolves queries and emerging issues using judgement based on analysis of information and utilising experience and knowledge of finance and accounting activities.
  • Leading on month end processes, ensuring that all journals that are posted are timely and accurately to the accounts. Involvement in transaction posting where necessary.
  • Top level understanding of the P&L and Balance Sheet, able to provide detailed commentary and answer questions from FD/FC/DFC and other interested stakeholders
  • Review of bids for compliance with process, completeness and accuracy of the financial data and modelling included
  • Supporting and delivers reliable reporting requirements for the business including contractual reporting obligations (e.g. QDC/SSRO); external and internal audit requests; and other ad-hoc reporting requirements as required by the business
  • Supports the effectiveness of the Business Finance team by proactively seeking areas for continuous improvement, implementing improvements as well as supporting others with these activities.
  • Capital expenditure monitoring and monitoring of Group Investment Programme

Experience & Qualifications

  • Qualified/Part Qualified Accountant – actively studying towards CIMA, ACA, ACCA, or AAT. If not, qualified by significant demonstrated experience
  • Confidence to challenge results and provide accurate and relevant feedback
  • Knowledge of SAP/Oracle and Microsoft Office, in particular Excel & PowerBI is an advantage
  • Project/Cost Centre accounting experience is essential
  • Development of Assistant Management Accountants and other team members
  • Proven experience of being able to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines, working alongside other members of the team in an efficient and structured way

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Farnborough facility with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.
