Senior Infrastructure Engineer - Job Description

As a member of QinetiQ IT Services the Senior Infrastructure Engineer will be providing expertise and knowledge taking accountability for as well as providing subject matter expertise to colleagues and supporting the development of IT standards/roadmaps in the areas that align to their core skills and knowledge.  In addition to bringing senior level expertise to the team in those core disciplines, we are also seeking for engineers who are willing to embrace change, learn new ways of working/new skills to support the development of a multi-disciplinary, highly skilled technical team.

As a Senior Engineer they will be adept at delivering complex tasks within a project and providing technical steer when required whilst demonstrating a good understanding of multiple IT technologies/principles.

Key Accountability:

• Act as Service Owner for systems/services within your remit ensuring obsolescence is reviewed and support the development of suitable roadmaps. This includes the development and maintenance of Standards in respect of virtual and physical Platform, Infrastructure and Storage Services.
• Act as a source of technical knowledge and expertise for other areas of IT Services
• Ensure system documentation is full and complete and ensure highlighted shortfalls are communicated and addressed.
• Continued security enhancements
• Ensuring Technical roadmaps are published internally to relevant stakeholders

General Capabilities / Experience

Necessary:

• Worked for a minimum of 7 years within an Enterprise IT environment.
• Experience of cross-platform, enterprise level IT security requirements and some understanding of current Cyber security methods and threats.
• Effective verbal and written communications with experience of communicating with a range of technical and non-technical audiences, internal staff and customers.
• Ability to adapt to a diverse and changing business and to work flexibly to accommodate the needs of projects and customers.
• Ability to efficiently manage time and task priorities.
• Above all, a desire to learn new skills and motivation to be at the forefront of technology developments is paramount.

Desired:

• ITIL Foundation or higher (or equivalent framework) certification
• Experience working within an ISO27001 environment
• Security Clearance at a minimum of SC

Technical Capabilities / Knowledge

Necessary:

• VMware Version 6.x upwards to current release.
• Experience of larger scale (>50 ESXi Hosts) VMware deployments across multiple geographical locations on-premise and Hybrid cloud.
• Experience of deploying workloads and services in Cloud based environments (e.g. Microsoft Azure and/or AWS).
• Experience configuring/managing Azure/Microsoft 365.
• Microsoft Windows Server; up to latest version and including Server Core.
• Microsoft Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS) and Group Policy Configuration with a view to Application and Operating System hardening.
• Advanced PowerShell skills.

Desired:

• A cloud related certification (Azure or AWS).
• Experience of containerisation / micro-services.
• VMware Cloud Foundation
• VMware NSX-V or NSX-T
• VMware VSAN
• Enterprise Storage and Backup Solutions
• Technical skills/experience in any of the following:  Microsoft Orchestrator and SMA, including use of PowerShell in SMA. Splunk
