About the role:

QinetiQ have a requirement for an Instrumentation Engineer to work within the Controls, Systems and Instrumentation Group at QinetiQ. The role would be primarily based at QinetiQ Haslar, Gosport. There also may be opportunities for work across other QinetiQ sites during certain projects.

 

You will be part of a small team responsible for the delivery of work packages for the Hydrodynamic, Maritime Life Support and Commercial groups within QinetiQ. This will involve instrumenting large scale model boats and submarines.

 

This role provides an exciting opportunity to work in a challenging area. Very few positions such as this exist where you can be exposed to such a wide range of technologies in a relatively brief time. What I will be doing:

  • Provide Instrumentation support to the the Production, Design and Life Support IDT and Haslar facilities.
  • Leading instrumentation tasks and activities
  • Assembling and maintaining instrumentation setups for use in scale model trials (e.g. scale models of surface ships), which includes calibrations and maintenance of a variety of different transducers, installation of DC electrical systems, setup of AC Power Drive Systems, setup of both software for specific transducers and software for use in trials themselves (e.g. acquisition and control software).
  • Setup and maintenance of certain facility related control and instrumentation hardware.
  • Calibration of data acquisition and sensors
  • Maintenance of electrical + electronic equipment, and Portable Appliance Testing
  • Liaising with other parts of the delivery team to ensure the timely delivery of instrumentation support for trials
  • Assist in providing and delivering the strategy for developing and maintaining the instrumentation and software used within the model instrumentation capability (includes research and development)
  • Design, Build and testing of bespoke instrumentation equipment

 

What do I need?

  • Educated to minimum of HND level in Electrical/Electronic engineering or equivalent experience.
