The role
As a  Naval Architect, you’ll have a role that is out of the ordinary. Our Naval Architecture and Maritime Engineering (NAME) group sits within the Maritime and Land business of QinetiQ and consists a team of over 50 people. The team delivers hydrodynamic testing and design consultancy services. Hydrodynamic problem solving forms a significant part of the project work within group – identifying a methodology for solving a client’s hydrodynamic issues, mathematically or through model testing.

 

Day-to-day, you'll;

  • Work collaboratively with customers and colleagues to deliver ensure the customers’ requirements are and providing innovative solutions to customers’ problems.
  • Breakdown complex tasks and then execute the planned schedule of work. This will include being customer facing and supervision of others.
  • Ensure the work is conducted in a safe manner, highlighting hazards and potentially unsafe practices to Team Lead.
  • Actively participate and encourage increased collaboration across the NAME Group.

 

This role is full-time, 37 hours per week, and can be based at either our Portsmouth, Bristol OR Edinburgh sites with hybrid working arrangments.

 

Essential experience of the Naval Architect:

  • An excellent understanding of Naval Architecture principles and the ability to use that knowledge together with sound engineering judgement to solve our customer’s important problems
  • Knowledge of the methods and tools used within hydrodynamic design and assessment is desirable
  • Practicing knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is strongly desired
