What do our Cloud Engineers and Architects do?
Our Cloud teams play a crucial role in ensuring consistent, secure, and cost-effective delivery of systems and support to projects.

They are subject matter experts in Cloud technologies, or they are actively working towards becoming one. Additionally, they possess a broad understanding of software, networks, cloud, and security technologies and processes.

As they advance in their Cloud careers at QinetiQ, they provide guidance by establishing architectural standards, creating reusable patterns, and contributing to the design, delivery, and operational principles.

Building effective relationships with various business units and managing internal stakeholders and external customers are key to succeeding in this role. At times, the team acts as consultants and advisors, leading work streams to navigate systems through accreditation processes.

They are responsible for designing new systems, integrating and updating existing ones, as well as decommissioning outdated systems. Working directly with customers, they transform complex requirements into architectures and designs, generating relevant documentation sets.

As they progress in their careers, they develop the ability to think cross-functionally, defining strategies and providing direction for the engineering team.

The team engages in various projects, such as introducing new services to support QinetiQ staff or developing new capabilities. They might also be tasked with designing a training environment for the RAF or providing an integrated intelligence toolset for armed troops. In many cases, their main challenge lies in leveraging their knowledge of commercial cloud and adapting technologies to meet specific needs.

Experience

  • Our Cloud Engineers and Architects possess a diverse range of experience working with AWS, Azure, or other public and private cloud providers.
  • They have hands-on experience in delivering complete cloud solutions using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD processes, while making use of cloud-native services and ensuring compliance.
  • Excellent organisational skills and effective communication abilities across different levels, from briefing the CEO to providing technical details to engineering staff, are essential.
