ISTAR Solution Architect

QinetiQ are looking to appoint an experienced Solution Architect to provide the solution leadership and co-ordination across key QinetiQ ISTAR areas of focus. Priorities will include:


  • Engaging with our customers to shape vision, strategy and requirements.
  • Providing solution leadership across key strategic captures.
  • Ensuring QinetiQ aligns development of ISTAR capabilities and propositions as part of a coherent strategy.
  • Providing leadership across QinetiQ capabilities working with our SME’s to design and deliver solutions which deliver on customer requirements.


This will involve very close collaboration across Business Winning, Project Management, Commercial and Finance functions.


Key Accountabilities Include:


  1. Strategy: Set the technical/capability/solution strategy across ISTAR initiatives
  2. Strategic Relationships: Support the building and retaining of strong relationships with customers and partners, particularly technical.
  3. Leadership: Lead a team of technical SME’s and engineers from across the company to develop ISTAR propositions and drive forwards our Strategic Captures.
  4. Proposition Development: Form a network of ISTAR experts and working with them to develop solution and service based propositions.
  5. Customer Engagement: Engages at senior levels acting as a key interface in shaping customer requirements and priorities.
  6. Business Development: Performs a key role in business development, leading design of compelling solutions and clearly articulating the benefits to customers
  7. Capability Development: Works with the Capability Area Leaders to identify the capabilities required to deliver ISTAR propositions.
  8. Thought Leadership: Leads on development of white papers and other thought leadership material, presenting papers to senior audiences and conferences.
  9. Technical Assurance: Ensures that all deliverables (which includes bids) meet appropriate standards, as well as complying with statutory, regulatory, company procedures.


Experience and Qualifications:




  • Proven experience operating in a Solution Architect role, working with business development to deliver significant propositions to customers.
  • Enterprise Information Management / Architecture experience. Able to define how data should be governed, managed and exploited to deliver decisive advantage.
  • Strong commercial awareness, able to shape propositions so they achieve optimal contribution to the business.
  • Selling of propositions: including:
    • Producing high quality bid response material and proposals, leading workshops and presenting to all levels of the customer as required.
    • Identifying and articulating the unique selling points of QinetiQ propositions alongside a clear value proposition.
  • Leadership of diverse technical teams, providing clear direction to ensure alignment and effective collaboration.
  • Ability to “get stuff done”: work through blockers, help the team work through issues and ensure that support is directed to the people who need it.
  • Evidence of building customer solutions/services that deliver profitable growth.



  • Specific prior experience across ISTAR capabilities.
