About the role
We are looking for a Senior Electronics Lab Technician to manage our labs at Malvern and provide technical expertise for our RF and electronics labs within QinetiQ. This role will support the engineering and scientific teams delivering radio frequency research, product development, laser and optical science alongside test & evaluation activities. The role will coordinate and de-conflict demands on both the technical equipment and use of the laboratories and workspaces.
You will be managing a large pool of complex test and measurement equipment. To be successful you will have a hands on understanding of the equipment, be able to advise on equipment set up, conduct fault diagnosis, assess and accept equipment returned from calibration or repair and assist in the specification of new or replacement equipment.
You will be based at our Malvern site and work across a range of different laboratories where small and large-scale/long term projects are being delivered, and will have the opportunity to learn new skills and be part of the wider QinetiQ Operations Team.
What do I need?
You will need to be able to demonstrate that you have proficient experience as a science or engineering Technician.
We would also like you to have:
- Excellent organisational and record keeping
- Experience of working within a team
- Experience working with complex electronic test equipment including, set up, use/operation and periodic calibration of: multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, power supplies, RF switches, power meters, logic analysers, network analysers etc.
- Experience of working in electronic design, build or test as a technician (ideal).
- A detailed understanding of health & safety including the writing and review of risk assessments.
- IOSH or NEBOSH (ideal)
- A working understanding of safety management practices such as COSHH
- Portable Appliance Test (PAT) (ideal)
- Microsoft Office – Word and Excel (proficient in using)

What will I be doing?
- Managing day to day activities across a broad range of laboratories and workspaces
- Maintaining a safe working environment
- Scheduling and de-conflicting equipment and workspaces
- Liaising with Lab users, site and the wider Operations Team to ensure compliance with regulations and company process.
- Ensure labs are equipped with standard set of test equipment that is maintained and controlled as well as coordinating and working with systems
- Specification and purchase of new equipment in addition to disposal of old equipment
- Ensuring specialist facility processes are captured and adhered to
- Management of scientific / engineering test and measurement equipment across the site and equipment calibration and maintenance
- Maintain list of site equipment requirements
- Supporting the engineers, scientists and projects with the day to day safe running of the facilities – including: risk assessments, purchasing and coordination of workspaces and equipment, to meet the changing needs of the business.
