We are currently looking for a Mechanical Technician to join our Integrated Engineering Services group in supporting Defence, Science and Technology (DST) Workshops based in Rockingham, Western Australia.

 

This role will see you independently manage and conduct operations at this DST facility embedded at the HMAS Stirling Naval Base. Manage, support and conduct fabrication, engineering, trials and maintenance activities in accordance with contracts and customer driven requests including:

  • Fabrication and machining
  • Safety management systems
  • Attending test and trials activities
  • Use of associated test equipment
  • Other equipment as directed
  • Conduct maintenance, support and management of workshop facility, including (but not limited to):
    • Calibration of support and test equipment
    • Facilities upkeep
    • Storekeeping
    • Logistics support (including asset procurement)
  • Provide support to clients associated with testing and trials activities.

 

As a Mechanical Technician your direct key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Oversee all aspects of the DST Workshop
  • Perform all workshop administration activities
  • Provide workshop inductions
  • Machine Management, Commissioning, servicing and operation
  • Calibration of test and measuring equipment
  • Conduct relevant Safety Activities including Plant Hazard Risk Assessments, SWMS and JSA for relevant tasks
  • Operate safely within the workshop facility at HMAS Stirling.
  • Conduct maintenance services in accordance with maintenance plans, level of authority and performance measures
  • Manage chemical holdings including MSDS’s and chemical risk assessments.
  • Deliver services to customers that enhance QinetiQ’s reputation as a trusted provider and partner
  • Demonstration of initiative and self-motivation
  • Compliance with legislative, regulatory, Quality Management Systems and Employee Safety requirements

 

To be successful in the role of Mechanical Technician you will need to bring with you:

  • Minimum Certificate III Engineering Mechanical Trade
  • Significant experience in the use of manual machinery e.g. Vertical Mill, Manual Lathe, Guillotine, Drilling, Welding and Assembly tasks (Highly regarded)
  • Defence industry experience not essential but advantageous
  • Demonstrated experience performing maintenance operations within a complex mechanical environment (preferably Defence)
  • Good communication skills, reliable and technically capable. A high degree of autonomy is required in this role
  • Demonstrated high quality of workmanship and attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret formal and informal mechanical drawings and designs.
  • Experience operating within a quality management system
  • Experience working with mechanical design engineers and scientists
