Project Manager - System Integration and Assurance

Overall Purpose of the Role:

To Project Manage a range of projects to agreed time, cost and quality criteria whilst supporting the strategic goals of the Business. Support the continuous improvement of business and project management processes in a matrix organisation.

You will be part of a business providing support to customers delivering maritime capability including combat systems, communication systems and information systems.

 

Job description/Person specification:

You will be managing a multi-disciplined team of highly specialised engineers across various locations developing, integration and gaining acceptance of complex development projects in the Maritime domain. The projects include ‘in-house’ development and customer friend activities.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 Responsible to the System Integration and Assurance Programme Manager, you will provide leadership of the whole project and engineering team for the safe and effective deliveries of development projects; responsibilities include:

• Meeting contractual obligations

• Achieving excellent customer satisfaction

• Delivery of project to time, cost and quality

• Production of open, accurate and timely financial and workload forecasts to support planning within the business

• Build relationships to enable successful engagement with a broad range of stakeholders (external and internal) often with competing interests

• Management of subcontracts, some with significant development work

• Application of appropriate project governance in-line with the QinetiQ Operating Framework

• Develop and maintain key project documents including Project Management Plan, Risk Register and Project Reporting Pack

• With the nominated Lead Engineers, leadership of projects through the system engineering lifecycle, ensuring that the lifecycle artefacts (business cases, documents, design reviews, etc.) are produced as required

• Promotion of best practice within your projects and ensure that previous lessons learnt are adopted and new lessons identified for future benefit

• In conjunction with your Programme Manager, develop any appropriate follow on work including proposal writing

 

Key Capabilities/Knowledge:

 Essential:

• Drive and determination to achieve successful project delivery overcoming problems and issues as they arise and preferably beforehand

• Track record of successful delivery of development, build and system integration of projects

• Teamwork - being able to create an environment where a group of people with diverse personalities, skills, experiences and perspectives are empowered to collaborate towards a common goal.

• Good problem solving abilities

• Open, honest and enthusiastic team member

• Good communication and interpersonal skills

• Able to exercise good commercial judgement

• An understanding of budgeting and resource allocation

 

APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ)  or equivalent professional qualification is essential.

Able to hold and maintain a UK MOD SC Clearance

 

Desirable:

• An understanding of the wider Defence and Security context

• Knowledge of Maritime domain

• Experience and success of supporting winning bids.
