System Engineer- Acoustic Programmes (Z coil)

Role Description

The Maritime Training, Tactics, Test & Evaluation Transformation Integrated Delivery Team (MTET IDT) has a requirement for a System Engineer to work as a part of a small team to assist in the delivery phase of the Z-Coil programme.

The Z-coil project aims to design and implement a single coil system designed to offset Earth’s field for the determination of a platform’s induced vertical magnetic signature (IVMS). The Z-coil be installed into an existing maritime range facility.

The system engineers will work with the Technical Lead (Engineering Delivery Manager) to deliver a complex and high profile project within the MTET IDT portfolio.

Responsibilities & Output

Team members need to be versatile as outputs are varied during the delivery lifecycle. The Systems Engineer will be a key part of the development, test and acceptance processes.

Technical Planning and Delivery, including:

 

Ensuring that the technical lead and project manager are fully informed of technical progress and issues

Ensuring that appropriate engineering plans (SEMP, Configuration Control, ITEA Plans, etc) are created, fully populated and maintained to an appropriate standard

Liaising with suppliers and the wider QQ team members to ensure that the team are fully informed of progress and issues

Creating technical progress reports, in the form most appropriate for the activity

Ensuring that the technical tasks are conducted according to the plan

Assisting in planning and conduct of acceptance trials

Ensuring the end deliverables meet specification and quality expectations

Ensuring that safety and security is properly maintained and legislation is complied with

Assisting the Technical Lead in ensuring that the necessary artefacts and documentation are created, controlled and delivered to schedule

Ensuring that issues are identified and recorded immediately.

 

Essential Skills

Experience with system engineering planning activities and tools

Experience of capturing system level or stakeholder requirements

Experience of working with non-functional subject matter experts such as Safety, Security and ARM

Understanding of capturing use cases and illustrating technical systems or activities

Good communication and organisation skills are essential. Team members need to be able to plan, undertake and provide status of technical tasks

Proven record of generating high quality documentation

Experience of working and liaising with external subcontractors or specialists

Someone who is hands on and enjoys interacting on a wide variety of multiple tasks and activities simultaneously.

 

Desirable Skills

Experience of systems test and acceptance processes and methods.

Experience with, or understanding of magnetics or integration & test of trials equipment.

Experience of working on teams using Agile tools and practices

 

Additional Notes

Remote working

Role will on occasion require some travel up to the maritime range (NW Scotland) or to visit subcontractors for equipment trials or meetings.
