The Role
Be part of the QinetiQ journey. Join us as a Lead Ammunition Technician to manage teams of OME Technicians and Apprentices undertaking OME-related tasks, including the safe storage, handling, processing and transportation of Explosives Substances and Articles, ensuring that the team members are competent to undertake the tasks in a safe and compliant manner. You will also be required to manage the Explosives Licenced Facilities at both West Freugh and Eskmeals Sites ensuring compliance with internal operating framework and external regulatory requirements.

 

Day to day, you'll:

  • Conduct safety checks/inspections on explosives facilities
  • Supervise explosives safety within own area of responsibility
  • Provide leadership within own area of responsibility including the allocation of tasks and the checking of work done by own team
  • The role has full supervisory responsibility, ensuring that team members are motivated and capable of delivering a professional service and a high-level of performance
  • Manage equipment in an explosives environment

 

This role is full-time, 37 hours per week with an expectation that the role holder will travel frequently between West Freugh and Eskmeals, as required.

 

Experience of the Lead Ammunition Technician:

  • Deep OME Technical background
  • Experienced in Licenced Explosives Facility Management
  • The role holder is expected to have or be working towards EngTech status
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring would be an advantage
  • Demonstrable experience across a variety of explosives related projects

 

Qualifications of the Lead Ammunition Technician: 

  • Degree/HNC in relevant discipline or industry recognised equivalent, or an extensive amount of practical knowledge gained through experience
  • A current ADR Licence would be an advantage
  • Role holder is expected to have, or be working towards attaining, full membership of a recognised industry body. e.g Institute of Explosives Engineers
