The Role

QinetiQ’s Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture team delivers consultancy services to the MOD as well as international defence and commercial customers. Analysing the research, design, and construction of marine vessels, infrastructure, and equipment form a key part of our work. The focus of the team is in the surface ship and submarine domain areas, including all aspects of structural, mechanical and electrical systems. The wider group also includes hydrodynamic design, assessment, bespoke numerical simulation tools as well as Maritime Life Support.


This opportunity is for a Marine Engineer to join our technical team. The primary focus of the job will be to support the delivery of technical projects to the MOD. This Marine Engineer role requires an excellent understanding of Maritime Engineering principals and the ability to use that knowledge, together with sound engineering judgement, to solve our customer’s important problems.


Day-to-day, you’ll be:

  • Working collaboratively with customers and colleagues to ensure the customers’ requirements are met and providing innovative solutions to their problems.
  • Breaking down complex tasks and then execute the planned schedule of work. This will includes being customer facing and the supervision of others.
  • Ensuring the work is conducted in a safe manner, highlighting hazards and potentially unsafe practices to Team Lead.
  • Actively participating and encouraging increased collaboration across the team.


Within this position, you will be able to work from home around 50% of the time depending on the task.


Essential experience of the Marine Engineer:

  • You must have experience in the Marine Engineering field.
