QinetiQ’s Explosive Materiel Branch is currently looking to engage with experienced Explosive Ordnance Engineers 

 

Opportunities are available in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

 

Boasting the largest team of highly respected and experienced Explosive Ordnance (EO) acquisition personnel, our consultants work in close partnership with our clients and are embedded within a vibrant team, working on multi-million dollar projects that are at the cutting edge of innovation in Defence munitions and the creation of sovereign defence capability.   

 

The Opportunity

 

Our key client manages the acquisition, in-service sustainment and disposal of all guided and non-guided explosive ordnance for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).  As Australia strives to create greater independence in an increasingly challenging strategic environment, we are experiencing unprecedented demand for our support services.

 

Under the Major Service Provider construct you will have opportunities to manage and accelerate your professional career across different projects, in Maritime, Land and Air Domain with the support and guidance of QinetiQ EO experts. Current projects and programs include:  

  • Armoured Fighting Vehicle – Weapons
  • Maritime Strike and Missile Defence Capabilities, including Sea Sparrow Missiles, Tomahawk Missile, Standard Missile 2, Mine countermeasure and other future systems   
  • Aerospace Explosive Ordnance, such as Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles, Long Range Anti-ship Missile, Joint Direct Attack Munition, and platforms including Super Hornet and Joint Strike Fighter weapons.
  • Specialist EO Support to ADF platform acquisitions

 

 

The Role

 

As an experienced Explosive Ordnance Engineer your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting weapon acquisition and certification.
  • Leading and mentoring junior engineers
  • Holding and exercising engineering authority on behalf of the Commonwealth of Australia
  • Initial planning and establishment of new weapon acquisition projects, using knowledge of CASG Capability Life Cycle and CASG/EMB policies and procedures
  • Planning, coordinating and executeing explosive ordnance project engineering activities whilst liaising with internal and external stakeholders rele
  • Drafting and reviewing engineering technical certification documentation, including technical certification
  • Undertaking certification of current in-service explosive ordnance, using the engineering management system to ensure ongoing technical integrity
  • Undertake engineering change proposals
  • Planning, preparing and developing weapon integration activities, schedules and plans for platforms including technical risk, dependencies, schedule, cost and fundamental input to capability elements
  • Assisting with cost models, execution plans, schedules, risk reduction studies and stakeholder engagement for further development of capabilities
  • Supporting the development of future improvements, enhancements and capabilities to systems and processes
  • Preparation of technical aspects of tender and contract materials including schedule milestones.
  • Developing project execution strategies and weapon plans

 

To be successful in the role of experienced Explosive Ordnance Engineers you will require experience in or an awareness of:

 

  • CASG (or similar) engineering processes
  • Engineering management plans and documents  
  • Capability life cycle and requirements
  • Explosive ordnance engineering management
  • Explosive ordnance operations / handling
  • Knowledge of the explosive munitions
  • Developing system engineering requirements for explosive ordnance
  • Test and evaluation of explosive ordnance products and certification of process and artefacts
  • Knowledge of COMSARM and ADF explosive ordnance inventory and of explosive ordnance capability development 
  • Ability to provide engineering input into briefs and presentations
  • Identifying engineering risks
  • Stakeholder engagement and relationship management
